I switched to steel strings for this festival.

w/ John Chiego, playing newly discovered Cole Porter’s opera

Playing Carl Weber’s composition. Has solo for each instrument in the orchestra. Very interesting.

Rehearsing Beethoven No.9

It was very fortune for me to have a full scholarship for this festival & all living expenses was paid during this festival :) It was almost like artist-residence & I could concentrate on what I am doing.

What I was doing every morning is… woke up very early & went to the pancake place close to where I was staying & had a very tasty big blueberry pancake (the best!).
Then, I started practicing in the fresh air for more than an hour before starting rehearsing & performing music for whole day. This went about for 10 days & the improvement was enormous after the festival.

The best thing on this fes was that I play with John Chiego, my mentor & teacher in the chamber orchestra. (We played an newly-discovered Cole Potter’s music for opera, which music was fascinating!).

I was also in the Jazz Ensemble & performed with Don Vappie, 7-strings guitar player from New Orleans. We played all classical New Orleans jazz & it was one of the most exciting concert we ever did in this festival.

We also recorded some pieces of one of the most important American’s composer, Gottschalks. You can purchase it at Amazon or cduniverse.com.

The biggest (& the hardest) piece we played was definetely the Beethoven No. 9.

I was listening to recording of Vienna Philharmonic & spent more than an hour practicing this piece everyday. I’m grad that it turned out to be very succesful & we had a lot of compliments for the bass section in this particular year.
